Workshop: Taking a Human Rights-Based Approach to Development
mars 27, 2018 @ 10:00 - mars 28, 2018 @ 6:00 EDT
In June 2017, with the adoption of the Feminist International Assistance Policy, the government affirmed that it would be taking a human rights-based approach (HRBA) in the delivery of its international assistance. What does this mean? Why is it important to address human rights in our development work? Does a feminist approach fit with a HRBA? What does a HRBA look like in practice?
This workshop will address these and other questions. It will build on material initially developed in 2014 by CCIC, Equitas and the Coady Institute, and workshops run recently in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver (March 21-22).
Goal: Enable civil society organizations to improve the effectiveness and impact of their development initiatives through implementing a HRBA.
Objective: By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to better integrate the elements of HRBA into their organizations’ projects and programs, and be able to share knowledge with peers and partners on how to integrate HRBA in their work.
To ensure diversity of participation, up to two people per organization can apply.
If the workshop is oversubscribed, CCIC will limit participation to one individual per organization. Participants may then be selected to ensure gender balance; range of sectors (food security, WASH, health, education, governance and human rights, economic development, gender, children and youth, etc.); and geographical diversity in terms of where programs are implemented.
The deadline for applications is February 28, at 12 noon EST. If you have applied to participate, please save the date for the workshop until your participation is confirmed.
What We Expect From You
Each selected participant will be asked to come with knowledge of a program or project either in the early stages of development or near a mid-term review. This will ensure that what you learn can directly benefit your program design.
