ACIC Symposium 2019
October 3 @ 6:00 pm - October 4 @ 5:00 pm EDT
You are invited to join the ACIC team in St. John’s for our annual Symposium!
Our theme, “Gender Equality: The Power of Storytelling to Build Relationships and Collaboration,” reflects how gender equality is a fundamental human right. The Symposium will focus on the importance of including all voices, the power of individual stories, and the successes of collaborative partnerships.
Our venue, The Fluvarium, is a public environmental education centre focused on showcasing Newfoundland and Labrador’s freshwater and riparian ecology. The centre will host all events of the Symposium, including the gala dinner and entertainment.
Register now here or through the button on the right! (or below, on mobile!)
(a limited number of travel subsidies are available to regular member organizations traveling from outside of Newfoundland!)
OPEN CALL for Workshop Facilitators
We are now open to proposals for Symposium workshops! Workshops should align with the theme for this year, and build on participants’ understanding of gender equality: how to bring a feminist approach to their work, and to the work of their organizations and partners.
Submit a proposal through the online form now! The deadline is September 4th.
Southern Speakers Fund Recipient: Lissy Chacko
Partnering with our member Chalice Canada, we are happy to welcome Lissy Chacko as this year’s Southern Speaker! Lissy’s past work implementing campaigns around women/ girls’ empowerment programs and participating in the protection of women in Kerala reflect the theme of gender equality for this year’s symposium.
NOMINATE NOW: Shirley Case Leadership Award
The Shirley Case Leadership Award for Global Citizenship is presented annually to an individual in Atlantic Canada who has demonstrated a spirit of global citizenship in a local, national or international capacity and who has helped create a more just and sustainable world. ACIC is actively soliciting nominations from the four Atlantic Canadian provinces, and the award will be presented annually at the Symposium Gala Dinner on Thursday, October 3rd.
The award is open to staff and volunteers of ACIC and its member organizations (both regular and individual). This year’s award is specific to the “Emerging Leader” category.
Act quickly! The deadline for nominations is Monday, August 19th.
We hope to see you in St. John’s in October! Check out the Symposium website for more information!
