Students across Canada are invited to submit a proposal for Regional Event 2018-2019. The overall purpose of this initiative is to provide opportunities for learning and professional development that bring students, scholars and practitioners together around current issues and themes in international development. As part of the CASID and CCIC collaboration, Next Generation: Collaboration for development program, this year regional events are intended as spaces to stimulate multi-sectoral discussions and learning. This year, we aim to support at least eight student-led regional events across Canada.

 

This call for proposals is for events that will take place before the end of August 2019, including, but not limited to, those to be held during International Development Week in February. The deadline for submissions is November 30, 2018. The proposals will be assessed based on the criteria below. Selected proposals will qualify for up to $1,000 of funding, to cover logistics costs, travel and/or external speaker fees. Funding will be disbursed after the event upon submission of original receipts and fulfillment of the reporting requirements. Alternative arrangements may be considered. It is hoped that the event organizers will make every effort to contribute their own funds through other sources

 

  • Events should be inclusive and collaborative
    The purpose of this fund is to encourage collaboration among academics, practitioners and policy makers, in the spirit of the Next Generation program. Successful applications will prioritize this aim. Both graduate and undergraduate students may apply. It is important to indicate what level and number of students and faculty will be involved.

 

  • One or more event organizers should be members in good standing of CASID

 

  • Events should be feasible and interesting
    Topics should be timely and clearly relevant to international development studies. Proposals should include a plan of activities, speakers, and a budget that is feasible and realistic

 

Proposals should be 1-2 pages long, indicating title, location, rationale, objectives, and demonstrating the above criteria. Applications should include a plan for an evaluation of the event. CASID and the Next Generation program will work with successful applicants to ensure that the evaluation plan meets our requirements. Successful applicants will be required to submit a technical and narrative report after the event. We encourage applications from universities that have not previously received a grant.
