Writer and Editor (Social media) Intern

The Canadian Council for International Co-operation (CCIC) offers an unpaid internship position to graduate students to support communication and outreach activities for the Next generation program. The joint program implemented by CCIC and the Canadian Association for the Study of International Development (CASID), aspires to generate a more collaborative, relevant,  timely, effective, and impactful ecosystem of knowledge and learning in Canada by fostering new ways of working among practitioners, researchers, academics, students and policy developers. The student participating in this internship position will be involved in professional projects, assignments and activities during the tenure with assigned staff.

This internship position is available for the Fall term (a maximum of 7 hours a week from September to December for approximately 16 weeks). The intern will work from CCIC’s office in Ottawa at least three hours a week.

Under the supervision of the Program assistant- Collaborative Research, the intern will find, create and disseminate original content on social media platforms. Regarding analytics, the intern will be able to set and measure KPIs (key performance indicators) and provide recommendations to help us to continually improve our reach and grow our online audience.

Responsibilities:

  • Create written relevant, original, and high-quality content to accompany our outputs and communication strategy (including visuals)
  • Create target audience personas for strategic marketing
  • Research, analysis and deployment of content strategy (under the guidance of the Program assistant)
  • Writing, editing and posting of tweets and other social media updates.
  • Keyword research and analysis to increase traffic
  • Content distribution on our social media platforms and other channels

Skills:

  • Excellent writing, communication, and digital skills
  • A good understanding of social media marketing and trends
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of social media platforms
  • Experience in advertising, communications, marketing, or related field an asset
  • Proven ability to create and execute online social media campaigns 
  • Creative and ‘out of the box’ thinker
  • Organized individual; able to multitask and manage time efficiently
  • Strong social listening and analytical skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Fluency in English and French an asset

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with development and humanitarian issues;
  • Familiarity with Canada’s international policy processes;
