The Position

Reporting to the Senior Health Advisor, the Health Advisor will play an important role in guiding, strengthening and supporting Plan Canada and Plan’s global capacity and expertise in health and nutrition programming with a strong focus on Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health and Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Right.

 

The Health Advisor role consists of providing technical advice and capacity building to Plan’s Country Offices and local implementing partners; supporting and/or leading health related project proposal development, developing project implementation plans and undertaking policy, research and networking work.

 

The Health Advisor will work with a range of individuals and teams within Plan Canada, Plan’s country offices and the global organization, to develop systems, tools and processes to build Plan’s capacities.

 

We are looking for a candidate that can bring a strategic approach to new business development, provision of timely technical assistance, strengthening strategic partnership with stakeholders and quality assurance of health and nutrition programs; someone who is mission driven, able to work in a matrix and fast paced environment and deliver results. Our successful candidate will be experienced in development of concept note and project proposal, write, review, edit and/or polish project implementation plans, reports and research results; design/update monitoring and supportive supervision tools and other relevant documents and


provide technical assistance to country offices and implementing partners. Committed to bring change in the lives of children, excellent team player skill and eager to learning and self- development are critical factors for success.


What does success looks like?

    • Provide health related technical assistance to program teams in Plan Canada, in Plan’s overseas Country Offices, and Plan’s external partners to ensure high quality project implementation
    • Design/update monitoring and supportive supervision tools and other relevant documents
    • Contribute to visibility & engagement of Plans’ work in international development and health forums & networks in Canada and abroad
    • Develop project implementation plan and prepare for baseline, mid-term reviews and final project evaluations
    • Support and /or lead the development of new concept notes and proposals on MNCH/SRH and Nutrition
    • Write, review, edit and/or polish draft concept notes and project proposals related to health or nutrition

As our ideal candidate you will have:

    • Proven track record in mobilising grant funding and designing/managing projects related to sexual and reproductive health and right/nutrition
    • Flexible and ability to adapt to change in timelines, schedules
    • Experience in project management cycle and data analysis
    • Knowledge of child rights-based approach to programming
    • Good capacity in team working, pitch-in attitude is a must
    • Demonstrated ability to review, synthesize information and produce quality technical documents
    • Knowledge of child rights-based approach to programming
    • Solid grasp of Results Based Management or other Logical Frameworks
    • Experience working for Non-Governmental Organization in Latin America strong asset
    • Business acumen and the ability to influence others by fostering strong business relationships
    • A flexible and adaptable work style; open to collaboration with strong personalities and professionals; thrive in a fast-paced evolving work culture
    • A passion for mission driven work and personal values aligned with those of Plan International Canada’s corporate values
    • Appreciation of diverse working cultures, and commitment to gender equality
    • Excellent capacity in English and Spanish, knowledge of Portuguese strong asset
    • Able to travel 40% of time to field offices.
    • Proven computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point) and internet use
