Passionate about developing and implementing solutions for hidden hunger, the Micronutrient Initiative (MI) works in partnership with governments, the private sector and civil society organizations to address micronutrient deficiency and related health and nutrition problems in underserved populations. Governed by an international Board of Directors, MI works in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America and reaches 500 million people in 70 countries.  With headquarters in Ottawa, Canada MI maintains regional offices in New Delhi, India and Nairobi, Kenya that manage our country offices in Asia and Africa.  Currently the MI is seeking applications for:

Deputy Director, Program Operations

The Deputy Director Program Operations will be responsible for overseeing a portfolio of nutrition projects in 10 countries across Asia and Africa with a total contract value of over $100 million, leading a small, high-performing team to undertake program operations support functions including conducting major nutrition commodity procurements, data analytics and donor grant management and providing guidance, oversight and support to senior regional grant managers to implement large-scale GAC grants.
This new position will work in close collaboration with the other Deputy Director to ensure that all MI field programs are implemented in a quality and timely fashion meeting all programmatic targets and other donor obligations.

  • Project Monitoring, Reporting and Evaluation
  • Financial Management
  • Human Resource Management 
  • Donor and Partner Relations

Requirements include:

  • Post-graduate degree holder; advanced education in public health preferred but not essential. 
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a senior managerial role for an international NGO or public sector agency.
  • Experience living and working in developing countries.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Strong project management skills and experience
  • Proven ability to manage staff from a distance
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in public health and nutrition programming
  • Demonstrated understanding of results-based management, performance measurement frameworks and fundamentals of program monitoring and donor reporting
  • This position is based in Ottawa, Canada. The position will require travel to Africa and Asia, as well as the Americas and Europe.  Trips are usually expected to be short term in duration (<3 weeks).  Overall travel days per year are usually no more than 90.  Travel is expected to developing countries approximately 2 – 4 times per year.
