The organization

Development and Peace is one of the leading Canadian international development NGOs and the official international solidarity organization of the Canadian Catholic Church. With annual revenues ranging between $25 million and $35 million, the organization supports local partners in several countries of the Global South. With a network of members across Canada, Development and Peace raises the awareness of Canadians about the causes of worldwide poverty and injustice and mobilizes Canadians around actions for change.

 

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of the International Program Department, the Program Officer is responsible for guiding the engagement of Development and Peace in one or more programs in the Global South and maintaining ongoing relations with the partners in these same programs. The Officer must also collaborate in the Organization's education, promotion and advocacy efforts. The Program Officer is an integral part of a programming team to which he or she must contribute.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or the equivalent
  • Four years of relevant experience in the field in international development
  • Experience in humanitarian work in Indochina (an asset)
  • Proficiency in French, English and Spanish, both written and spoken
  • Ability to compose, revise and translate texts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Knowledge of a database program (an asset)
  • Knowledge of the Results-Based Management
  • Good knowledge of the Church and its commitments to social justice matters
  • Available to travel in Canada and abroad
  • Available for occasional weekend work
  • Ability to function in sometimes difficult circumstances during field visits


Working conditions

  • Entry salary depending on experience and the number of languages mastered and required by the position
  • 35-hour work week
  • Group insurance plan, pension plan and competitive working conditions according to the collective agreement
