The organization

Development and Peace is one of the leading Canadian international development NGOs and the official international solidarity organization of the Canadian Catholic Church. With annual revenues ranging between $25 million and $35 million, the organization supports local partners located in several countries of the Global South. With a network of members across Canada, Development and Peace raises the awareness of Canadians about the causes of worldwide poverty and injustice and mobilizes Canadians around actions for change.

 

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director – Communications and Philanthropic Development, the Communications Officer – Social Media participates in the development of the strategies and content that will ensure Development and Peace’s visibility and outreach. The Communications Officer’s primary job is to manage the Organization's image, positioning and presence on social media, such as activities, events, campaigns, etc. The Officer also plays a liaison role with the public, which includes following and facilitating exchanges on the Organization’s various social media platforms.

In addition, the Officer participates in training Organization staff and members on how to promote the best use of social media for the Organization.



Requirements

    Academic background

    • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline (new media, communications, social sciences, public relations, or the equivalent)

    Languages

    • Excellent command of French and English, spoken and written
    • Knowledge of Spanish or other relevant language(s) (asset)
    • Ability to compose, edit and correct texts in both languages

    Software and computer programs

    • Mastery of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
    • Social media platforms and their programming interfaces
    • Knowledge of video-, photo- and graphics-editing software
    • Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS (asset)

    Experience

    • Three years of relevant experience coordinating and facilitating social media platforms, campaigns and events (traditional and online)
    • Experience working with young people
    • Experience in a non-profit organization or work with volunteers or donors
    • Experience in online fundraising (asset)

    Specific knowledge

    • Good knowledge of the social, economic, political, religious and cultural issues in Canada
    • Knowledge about and effective use of social media and other media (photo, video, etc.)
    • Knowledge of relevant service providers and certain aspects of multimedia production
    • Familiarity and knowledge of the different cultural communities in Canada

    Availability

    • Availability to travel in Canada
    Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends

     

    Working conditions

    • Salary and benefits according to collective agreement.
