The Opportunity

The Coady International Institute is inviting applications for a Director, Education Programs. This senior administrative position reports to the Vice President, Coady Institute and Extension Department. Serving as a collaborative member of the Senior Management Team, the Director is responsible for safeguarding and advancing Coady’s strong reputation as a world-class center of excellence in community-based leadership education.

The Coady Institute education offers a transformative learning experience that equips development leaders with new knowledge, practical skills and tools to build communities and societies. In addition to its internationally recognized Diploma in Development Leadership, the Coady Institute offers a range of certificate courses related to its thematic priorities, including programs that focus women, youth, and indigenous leadership, both in Canada and internationally.

The incumbent’s knowledge and professional experience will align with Coady’s vision, mission and values. The Director is responsible for ensuring the design and delivery of high quality, rigorous and relevant education programs. A dynamic, collaborative and consultative leadership and management style is required to advance Coady’s Institutional Strategy as it pertains to the quality and rigour of our on and off-campus education and blended learning programs. The position oversees a team of 4-6 direct reports and cross-team education program committees.


The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Proven administrative skills in the development, management and delivery of post-secondary educational and/or related programs;
  • Understanding of and experience with adult education pedagogy and practice; demonstrated capacity in curriculum design, teaching, leadership development, with an understanding of and commitment to participatory and transformative approaches;
  • Knowledge and experience related to one or more of Coady’s educational themes;
  • Demonstrated expertise in attracting, retaining, motivating and managing professional staff;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and organizational skills;
  • A PhD (preferred) or Master’s degree in a related field of study;
  • English fluency required, French and / or Spanish are an asset.


Key Administrative Functions and Responsibilities

  • Active, supportive and constructive member of the senior team;
  • Leads the development, implementation and evaluation of quality on and off campus education and blended learning programs;
  • Builds a culture of excellence for the design and delivery of quality programing;
  • Oversees and supports Coady’s Student Services manager and team in the successful implementation of management and coordination of admissions, recruitment, and quality of student life;
  • Oversees and supports Coady’s Manager of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
  • Ensures management and financial accountability of education budgets;

  • Contributes to strategy development and implementation, and administrative oversight, including Coady’s education program and research, networking, knowledge-building activities as needed.

Antigonish is a beautiful, vibrant town located in northern Nova Scotia on the Northumberland Strait. It is home to the Antigonish Movement and has a long history of social justice activity. About 200 km from Halifax, Nova Scotia and 250 km from Moncton, New Brunswick. Antigonish is known as the Heart of the Highlands and the gateway to Cape Breton.
