POSITION SUMMARY

The Canadian Council for International Co-operation (CCIC) is Canada’s national coalition of civil society organizations (CSOs) working globally to achieve sustainable human development. Our members represent a broad range of CSOs working in international development and humanitarian assistance — from faith-based and secular groups to labour unions, cooperatives and professional associations. CCIC seeks to end global poverty and to promote social justice and human dignity for all. Its membership covers the country from coast to coast to coast, and CCIC and its members play a critical role in ensuring that the Canadian civil society sector works in a catalytic and strategic way to create and enhance the conditions for ambitious Canadian investments in global development cooperation.

CCIC is recruiting a Communications Assistant who, under the supervision of the Communications Officer, and in close coordination with the Campaigns and Member Relations Manager, will support a variety of communications priorities across CCIC including social media engagement, producing the CCIC monthly e-newsletter, coordinating translations for CCIC materials, and supporting the work of the Communications Officer.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Communications support:

- In conjunction with the Communications Officer and the Campaign and Member Relations Manager, supports the implementation of CCIC’s communications strategy, in particular all aspects of CCIC’s social media engagement, including Council and campaign outreach; 
- Manages the customer relationship management system (CRM) for the CCIC campaign and any campaign related data analysis;
- Helps track the implementation of CCIC’s communications strategy and objectives through key indicators and analytics; 
- Coordinates the production of CCIC’s monthly e-newsletter;
- Supports the drafting and editing of content for CCIC’s website and blog, as well as promotional materials as required;
- Assists with the formatting and layout of CCIC publications, in particular the annual report, the monthly e-newsletter, policy briefs, periodic reports, and other publication materials;
- Supports the Communications Officer with the redesign of the CCIC website.

2. Provides effective logistical and administrative support for CCIC communications activities:

- Coordinates all translation needs for CCIC materials, including liaising with translators and reviewing translations before publication or dissemination;
- Provides logistical support for events, meetings, workshops and webinars, including taking minutes as required;
- Manages and updates relevant mailing lists and contact information, including with the media.

3. Other Organizational Tasks:

- Supports specific ad-hoc communication needs of various CCIC programs and events; 
- Participates in the implementation of key CCIC events as appropriate;
- Contributes to CCIC internal and external reporting, such as reports to the board, donor reports, etc.;
- Perform other duties identified as a priority by CCIC.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Essential:

  • Relevant university or college diploma or equivalent in a relevant field;
  • Bilingual in Canada’s two official languages (written and spoken);
  • Minimum of two years’ relevant work experience, preferably in the NGO sector;
  • Experience with social media communication strategies, metrics and best practices;
  • Experience with digital campaigns and/or digital organizing;
  • Experience with data management and/or data analysis;
  • Excellent writing, editing and communication skills;
  • Knowledge of development and humanitarian issues;
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills;
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and work under pressure;
  • Capacity to work in a self-directed manner, collaborate in a team, and to seek advice as required.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud 
  • Familiarity with web conferencing systems.
