Women Making Change Soirée Highlights the Work of Inspiring Leaders

March 10, 2016

Ottawa, March 10, 2016. More than 150 leaders from the international development, environment, education and scientific communities, as well as Ministers, Members of Parliament and senior bureaucrats, will meet today at the Canadian Museum of Nature to celebrate women’s leadership and to explore how they can work together to accelerate global change on environmental and poverty reduction issues. The event is co-hosted by the Canadian Council for International Co-operation (CCIC) and the Canadian Museum of Nature. It is held in the context of CCIC’s first ever Women Leaders’ Forum, which is bringing together 50 participants from across Canada to Ottawa for two days of workshops on effective communications and advocacy. The Women Making Change Soirée will start with an address by the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Status of Women, who will make remarks on the importance of women’s political, economic and community leadership. This will be followed by the inaugural presentation of the Karen Takacs Award for Women's Leadership in International Development, presented by Karina Gould, MP and Parliamentary Secretary for the Minister of International Development. Karen Takacs was a celebrated and cherished leader of the Canadian international development community, working tirelessly to promote women’s rights and social justice throughout her career. Karen was also Chair of CCIC until 2011. Following her passing in 2015, CCIC decided to honour her by setting up this award. All the details here
