CCIC to facilitate a dialogue on the mining sector and development
April 30, 2012
Since January there has been growing interest in the media and in the international development community on the debate around the value of, as well as the costs/risks associated with, NGOs partnering with CIDA and mining companies to implement development projects. Academics have also joined the debate, and several events have been hosted by CCIC members and others that have addressed this issue. In this context, CCIC has indentified the need for a safe space in which members can come together to openly share information and discuss these very important, but potentially divisive, issues. CCIC is preparing a one-day, by invitation only, meeting to be held in Ottawa on May 22. This initial meeting will convene a small group of organizations most closely involved in this debate. All CCIC members will be informed on outcomes of the meeting as well as next steps.
