Human rights accountability in trade with Colombia
August 31, 2011
Embassy Magazine has published a
CCIC commentary on whether a new human rights treaty for the Canada-Colombia trade deal can be a force for accountability for the effects of trade and investment on human rights. The new treaty took effect August 15th 2011 alongside the trade deal itself. The treaty is an important opportunity for accountability since major claims were made by both governments that the trade agreement would bolster efforts to consolidate democracy and protect human rights in Colombia.
